Anyone know any writers who wrote before a war, during a war, then after?

I think its interesting how someone's thinking can change during a crisis. Like H.G. Wells. Before the war he sort of envied America's education system. After the war started he seemed annoyed with America for refusing to help in the war. Then he seemed to idolize President Wilson after America Joined. Back to annoyance after the war when America didn't do enough with Wilson's League of Nations idea.

George Orwell is one example; his career spanned World War 2.

Lu Xun is another. His career began in the last years of the Qing dynasty and he lived through the Chinese revolution of 1911 and into the era of the Republic.
