Methods have improved in light of scientific discoveries in how children learn, but we're having an issue in schools becoming strongholds for things other than education.

Generally I still hold a high opinion of them. School staff work hard, and the work they do can often be thankless. Especially when parents blame poor grades on the teacher as opposed to the student that just f*cks around all day.

I still think schools in Scandinavia and Japan are better. The former has a curriculum and methods that are estimated to be at least 10 years ahead of a majority in the Western world, and Japan's instill the value of hard work and responsibility in their students.

I think that overall the Public school system in Australia does very well. If you send your child to a private school, they have a 1% chance of getting into university better than a state school kid. After the second year at university the state school kids are equal with the private school kids and at graduation the state school kids out number the private school kids by 2:1.

I think that the problem with education in Australia is that we support and fund schools that really dont need the govt money, such as all those Publicly funded Private schools in very rich areas where their parents have a huge disposable income and as usual dont pay, or pay little tax, because they are in some form of private enterprise.

I suggested the other day that all students should be funded exactly the same and then was accused of being Communist.

It produces left wing whingers and bigots. It's okay when they're narrow gits but not anybody centre or right.
