Get a license...not even required in every state.

Most times, these people start as builders or working for home builders. Then, they can work as appraisers, inspectors, adjusters, etc. Its all about that construction background though, you need to know how much things cost.

- Good math skills

- Understanding of construction

- Investigative skills

- High intelligence

- Diplomacy

- Ability to work long hours without losing focus

- Willingness to walk on steep roofs, crawl into attics full of bat guano, crawl under trailer houses full of cat guano, or wade through raw sewage in somebody's basement

- Listen to people alternating between crying and calling you names

- Willingness to let people sick their dogs on you, knowing that you won't sue

- Ability to withstand physical threats from people while maintaining your friendly smile

- Like to argue with people who cannot comprehend simple logic

- Knowledge of the legal system

- Ability to relate to ALL types of people

- A license

You just have to take a class or two and a test
