How to tell which wire is positive and negative without a multimeter?

I have an AC adapted that I have stripped the wires on and am using for a LiPo charger. How do I tell which wire is which without a multimeter? One of the wires has white words and numbers on it and the wire is a smooth cylinder. The other wire has no markings and it a rigid cylinder. I don't want to buy a multimeter and need to make sure that I attach the right wires. Can I tell by the markings or is there another way to test which wire is which?

If you are talking about the line side wires, the one with the ridge is the neutral. On the load side it would be the negative.

A multi-meter wouldn't tell you a thing. At best it would read continuity (resistance) through the windings in the transformer. But it wouldn't tell you which was hot and which was neutral.

PS, mult-meters can be had for free on an occasion from Harbor freight. Or for less than $10 all over town. Granted, cheap units aren't as accurate and won't hold up well to any sort of abuse, but they are OK for general house hold use.

Cheap multi meter can be purchased for less than $20 US. Either buy one or buy new equipment that is properly terminated.
