In my view, most problematic bipolar behavior (as opposed to moods) is that they respond inappropriately to stress, so the real challenge for you is to be honest with yourself about what situations cause you stress. More than likely if you manage to stay out of screwed up relationships, limit the amount of time you spend with your parents, avoid drugs, and avoid other stressful situations, you won't have the kinds of stress reactions your describing. If you know you will be entering a stressful situations (like a job interview or a visit with a difficult family member), have a plan in place (e.g., before the event do something relaxing, don't drink too much, excuse yourself from the stresser by going to the bathroom and meditating or going on an errand, or even saying you have to make a phone call and calling a friend who can calm you down). The key is to avoid those situations that cause you stress, even though some of those situations you may find tempting.
