Why do Americans spout party politics on questions that have nothing to do with politics?

Update:

For example I asked "Would you rather be in a room where everyone had a gun or no one had one". And people stated talking about liberals and stuff like that.

    Its how we roll...if you don't like it don't join the conversation...and on that note I don't know what country your writing from but other countries do this as well. I speak three languages and I read stuff in all of them and everyone seems to be doing the same crap...more or less but it exists in other cultures as well.
