I taught Adapted Swimming back in the mid-70s; some of my students had one missing limb, some had no arms, some had no legs, and I had several Small People and several blind students, too. They all learned to swim and enjoyed doing laps, a great majority lost weight and continued for many, many years for recreational purposes and therapeutic benefits. I was also one of several instructors with one of the Special Olympics programs.

The one who appeared on Dancing with the Stars last night looked like she would be quite buoyant.
