Fan extractor broke, bought new one, but I have live neutral and unused earth, fan has 2 lives, can I not use this or will it work with one?

replace the fan unit === since it broke it is now a possible source of an electrical fire ==== it is cheaper to buy a new fan than to try to replace the burned parts of the structure ==AND== from your description of the wiring of the fan you really need to get a new fan that has better color coded wires ..... the issue here is SAFETY == my advice to you is to put the old fan in the trash .....

You need to connect the live and permanent live terminals together. It'll work that way, but it'll be simply on or off (no timer overrun)

You are operating under the FALSE assumption the color of the insulation on the wires means something. It doesn't. You need to START by reading the manual for the fan. Then you have a PRAYER of figuring out how to properly wire it.
