You should have given her 30 days notice. If not, then I think you owe her for October. She needed time to find a new roommate if she can't afford to live alone. Just because you are sisters doesn't mean that you aren't obligated to give her fair warning about moving out. Pay her for the 30 days following the date you told her you were moving. So if you told her you were moving Sept 15th, for example, you should pay her through October 15th.

Did you give her 30 days notice? If not you legally owe a months rent.

Rent due 10/1/15 is for the month of October of that year. If you weren't there, you don't owe anything for that month.
