I'm a 19 year old female with an addiction to alcohol, I'm scared for my health and future, what do I do?
I drink almost every day just to feel 'normal' and if I stop drinking I have really bad withdrawals, If I don't have any alcohol I go straight to cigarettes and I could be smoking up to 7 a day. I have really bad anxiety, I have gone for help, I have been taking medication but started drinking whilst on it and now I'm back to my old ways. I'm scared to go back to my doctors...more so embarrassed because I've let everybody down even myself. I'm scared for my health now and for the future. I don't know where to take the first step, or who I should go to, or if there's any good sites I can visit and or chat with someone as anonymous. Please help!

Start with a therapist who works with addiction. S/he will help you put together a plan. It might include a detox, a rehab, a sober house, AA/NA or Smart Recovery, etc., a psychiatrist, etc. It's important that as you quit alcohol, you see hope that the underlying issues with be reduced, such as anxiety and the root causes of your anxiety. A good therapist won't judge you even if you relapse, but will there to help you through this difficult chapter of your life. I agree with the idea that you go right to AA, but it doesn't sound like you're ready for that because of your anxiety and embarrassment.

See if there is an Alcoholics Anonymous support group near you. You don't have to be a major alcoholic for it to be helpful. Even just listening to others and hearing what they went through may help.
