ESL teaching: what is a probation period?
I always hear about that added to ESL jobs in China. What is it? I did some reading that by law in China, a probation period can not last more than 1 month.

Probation just means that they can fire you if you're not working out. I have never known that to happen, and I know a lot of people who have taught in China. In fact, they have been willing to put up with some very incompetent teachers, just for their students to have some contact with a native speaker.
