It's this thing called practice. You'll get better at it as time goes on, and it won't take as long as you think it will.
How would a guy know this, you might ask? Well, I've known many girls in my life and have become a bit of an expert in the topic. My sister is a girl, all my girlfriends were girls, my wife is a girl, all my nieces are girls and three of my god-daughters are girls. And girls wear bras, so the knowledge kind of rubbed off over the years. Plus I have studied the topic in depth, because never mind why.
The "hook thing" is called the clasp, and it's what keeps the band (the part that wraps around your rib cage) fastened in place. I always preferred bras that had the clasp located in the front (called the gore), but obviously yours is located in the back. Back-clasp bras are always more difficult to do and undo at first.
The way to start is to actually wrap the band around you backwards, clasp in front. Hook up the clasp, then one-two twist the whole assembly around until the clasp in at your spine, then put your arms through the shoulder straps and adjust the garment into position. This method is a little time consuming, but very effective.
Once you've mastered that, the next step is to put the bra on cups forward, but so it around your midsection (waist line) and then pull the whole assembly upwards until you can easily slide your arms through the straps. As you get more comfortable, you'll be able to reach higher and higher behind your back to fasten the clasp. This isn't a race of any kind, so take your time and stay within your comfort zone.
