Do you think it is bad to frequently play the lottery?
I just turned 18, and find the lottery to be very fun. Knowing not to spend more then I can afford, do you think it is okay to frequently play the lottery? (Religious and personal). Thank you.

Horrible answers so far with the exception of Kevin. Gold diggers??? wtf are they talking about? Playing the lottery isn't for gold diggers, it's for suckers. Mark? It's a waste of money whether you're spending more money than you can afford or not. "hope"??? That's what the lottery company is preying on. The hopes of the poor and the ignorant.
Forget about religion. Just focus on "RIGHT" and "WRONG". Know this above all else - For every dollar the lottery company collects, they only pay out about 50 cents. At a 50% payback rate, it makes the lottery the single worst bet on the planet. No other standard form of gambling even comes close to being as bad as the lottery. It is a TAX on the poor and on the ignorant.
If you can afford to light a match to a little bit of money each month, then fine - buy an occasional lottery ticket if it gives you that thrill of "Maybe I'll hit it rich!" If, however, you actually need and value money, then no - It's just not worth playing.
If you really feel hooked, then do yourself a favor - play for as few dollars as humanly possibly. Perhaps just buy 1 big-money lottery game per week. (Like PowerBall or Mega Millions.) Any more spent than that is a total waste of money.

No cause when you lose 90% of the time and usually don't get a payback your really just donating to your state who runs the lotto which could be good in the long run cause it helps build schools, police stations, fixes and builds roads plus you can also win. Casinos don't usually do this but some do so if you plan on going there I would read about your casino. Good luck and be a smart gambler!

How's it a waste of money? Everyone is free to try their luck! Try to tell someone who won the lottery and became rich after trying for years that they shouldn't have played it frequently...

As long as you are currently saving at least 20 times as much as you spend on the lottery, it's fine.
As long as you can afford to lose at least 10 times as much as you spend on the lottery, it's fine.

If you're spending more than you can afford, yes, otherwise it's just a waste of money.

There is not one in my area. I think buying one or two tickets per week is okay; going overboard would be stupid.
