UK People - are you worried about the possibility of a Marmite shortage due to the Tesco/Unilever debacle? And, have you tried Bovril?

Not in the least. I only use Marmite when I run out of boot polish, it makes a great insect repellant and in spite of the smell, is an excellent substitute for wallpaper paste. I love Bovril in beef stews or as a gravy and as a drink but, they are different commodities with different uses.

At the moment the shortage is confined to online ordering from Tesco, presumably there are plenty of other shops with Marmite etc. And several brands of similar products, often "own brands" in various supermarkets.
What intrigues me is that, in Asda (and others?) Vegemite from Australia is cheaper than Marmite, in spite of travelling in small glass jars halfway around the world.
Bovril is meat-based, thus not suitable for vegetarians.

Bovril is supplied by Unilever, so stocks* could be hit. I've tried Bovril, but I prefer Marmite.
I have a jar in the cupboard. The stuff lasts for what feels like forever, so I'm sure my jar will outlast the current situation.
Tesco strike again. They are always trying to squeeze the suppliers, so I don't blame Unilever for digging their heals in.

I'm not a fan of either Marmite, or Bovril but in any case, buy Morrisons own (Marmite) which my husband eats quite happily.

Bovril is a drink, Marmite is a spread and no I'm not remotely worried.
I already have stocked up on Marmite, Vegemite and supermarket home brand yeast extract.

Luckily i only bought a jar of Marmite a few weeks ago, for those who have never tried it , its lovely on hot toast .if they run out we can get the Aussie Vegemite , dont know about Bovril

Funny...but throughout the populist press last week, we were told Marmite, thinly spread (didn't know if that was on bread, or one's skin) raised "passion in the bedroom".
In any case - talking of Tesco - don't they have a bum version of 'Marmite' (or is it Bovril). I usually see it when I'm in one of their stores. I know Sainsbury's have their version of 'Bovril' - I suspect the rest of the stores do that skank also, selling them at a slightly cheaper price. What's the sign the stores have in it's place?
'Sorry, this product is currently not available. See Alternatives.'
Guess people under a certain age won't give a damn, concerning the - er...debacle!

Bovril is beef extract. Marmite is yeast extract. If you knew how Bovril is made I doubt you'd ever eat it again.

I use Bovril to cook stews with, and chicken bovril for curries. I don't particularly like yeast extract, but I did use it a lot years ago for cooking but it gave me bad wind. Vegemite tastes like vulcanising rubber solution.
