Is the only real way for the human species to survive indefinitely, to colonize space and other planets?

There is a multitude of problems facing humanity that are directly impacted by population growth alone, as food sources go Earth is projected to be able to handle a sustainable population of no more than 10 billion people as far as this factor is concerned, beyond some leap in technology that nullifies this issue not to mention the multitude of issues that begin to accumulate as the population grows, is this the only way for the human race to continue?

We still won't survive indefinitely, we'll just have avoided dying out from merely global disasters. Traveling far enough that one supernova won't get us all is quite a tall order.

I would say so, not because of the population problem that can be fixed.

But eventually our sun is going to expand so much that Earth will burn up, we have a few billion years yet though.
