It is an operating system used by Macintosh computers. It was created so that Macintosh computers could be operated. In those days most computer companies created their own operating system for their own computers. Some used generic systems such as CP/M. Once Microsoft had scammed IBM Windows became an option for computer manufacturers and so many adopted Windows as the operating system for their computers.
The advantages of macOS over lesser systems such as Windows are many and the disadvantages are non-existent.
