someone wonders why we don't see that the decline in religion is freeing people?
Did you know that more Americans now die from suicide than are killed in car crashes each year?
According to the CDC, there has been a substantial spike in suicide deaths in the United States in recent years. Today, approximately 9.3 million Americans admit to having suicidal thoughts, and approximately 2.7 million Americans each year actually make a plan for how they would commit suicide. We are a deeply, deeply unhappy nation

There's only a declination in religion in in North America and Europe.
You're not thinking globally..

Stuff doesn't make people happier.
Sex doesn't make people happier for long. Too much and it gets boring too.
Food, not for long.
What does? The ultimate Good does. It's a source of joy that endures, even in the storm, even in that slow fall at the end.

If people are more free, I don't see them being free. Ask the refugees who have fled from the Mid-East to Europe if they feel free. Even the atheists who post here don't sound free; they don't even sound happy. They sound angry, critical, judgmental and furious that those who don't share their disbelief refuse to join them. I would think free people would be happy. If they are, they hide it well.

In an anti-theist's mind, it often seems that "freedom" is measured by "how closely one's views align with my own." (Sounds very American, doesn't it?)
They feel that they are "free" from religion, and therefore anyone who believes in religion must not be free.
It's not a very strong argument when you think about it.

Things are safer and better than they have been in decades. It is propaganda that violent crime is on the rise and people are more immoral than in the past.
