In Iowa, when your stolen property is sold to a pawn shop, do you have to buy it back?

    No. You must be able to prove that the property is owned by you. Then the

    police will approach the pawn shop for receiving stolen goods.

    No. The pawn shop bought hot goods - so they are out of luck. You are entitled to your stuff back. However, you cannot just walk in and claim it. You need proof that is is yours - a photograph perhaps. You will have had to file a stolen merchandise report with the police.

    The pawn shop doesn't have to just hand it over to you, but you can file a stolen property report and the police will recover it and investigate whoever sold it to the pawn shop. Pawn shops are often referred to in the law as "secondhand dealers" and you can look up the statutes in your area.

    if the police confiscate your stolen goods, when the case is finalized and they no longer need it for evidence it will be returned to you

    I think you are correct as unfair as it seems . Check with the county attorneys office .
