Can you give me some ideas for a resolution to my scenario? (Writing a plot)?

if the climax is that the protagonist and one of the main characters is driving and gets into a car accident, the main character (who is driving the vehicle) dies and the protagonist survives, why could a possible resolution be? If the internal conflict is the protagonist trying to get over the other main characters death? Thinking about writing a book for my own enjoyment. Please let me know if you need more information.

The protagonist *is* the main character (unless the antagonist is) as a rule, so I'm confused here.

Once you kill the main character, his or her part is over, so I suspect that character is more the conflict personified.

The obvious resolution is that your passenger who survives, badly traumatized by the accident and resulting death, finally gets into a car again, or drives again, or dares to love a friend again.
