What's the best way to find out exactly what a company does before seeking employment with that company?

My previous job ended up being a big disappointment. I knew the company dealt with cell phones so I thought since I'm great with cell phones and technology in general I'd fit right in working for them. That was far from the truth the position required little to no experience about cell phones. I'm tired of getting hired and finding out the position isn't anything I'd thought it would be like. In the past I've asked then active employees what they do there. Their answers usually weren't very thorough. In some applications a brief summary of the duties are listed but that's usually very general info. What's the best way to find out exactly what I'd be find in a position?

Interview with them expressing interest. Early in the conversation, explain your desire to understand what the role is and how it plays a part of the larger picture of the corporation or company operations.

The hiring manager should be able to explain what they do and how the day-to-day operations work. You can decide at that point that the position does or does not match your expectations. If I interview with someone and they tell me it's not what they thought and it's not for them, I'm fine with that. That is better than hearing someone try to compete for a job but not want it anyway.

Go to the company's web site and read about them. Any company is going to have a web site that describes their products and services. If they have nothing online, be suspicious of them.

How about researching online? There are places where you can find information such as forums, social media groups and review sites.
