    Very good question.

(And unfortunately an opinion one your teacher expects you to answer based on your understanding of the material.)

The American Revolution was unique becasue the adversary was 3000 miles away.

In Syria today, for example, after it is over all the people you were fighting live in your town. They are not going away. In OUR revolution the government and all its arms could be sent "home." We would be a new country and if you did not like it you could leave TO a place, NOT become a refugee.

Hope that helps you form your own opinion of the subject.

Civil war is between people in the same country. The Revolution was against England.

If it is to be a civil war, it can be labeled as the war within British subjects of British Isles & its new colonies in North America. Both peoples are ethnically the same - British.

Not accurately. In the 1690s, 90% of the people living in the colonies were of English birth or parentage. By the 1780s that number was under 50%.

Absolutely not. The people of the Americas were not British- time and separation ensured a cultural divide. In the end, the Americans were already their own nation, just under British control.

It *was* a civil war, between loyalists and separatists. It was only called a "revolution" because the separatists won. Had they lost it would have been called a rebellion.
