Would this equation be linear?
The age of particles increases linearly with depth. As in the particle age increases 1000 years for every 17.8 cm of depth.
It sounds like the equation would be linear but there might also be more to it. What would the equation be?

Well you are told that age increases "linearly".
Then you are told that age increases 1000 years for every 17.8 cm of depth, i.e. dy/dx = 1000/17.8 ----> constant change ----> linear relation.
So everything points to a linear function.
age = 1000/17.8 * depth + ?
