Physics Problem?

A steel section of the Alaskan pipeline had a length of 58.3 m and a temperature of 19.4 °C when it was installed. What is its change in length when the temperature drops to a frigid -39.8 °C?

    I did this for you a couple of days ago here:

    BUT I failed to put the negative sign on the answer (-0.0414 m = -4.14 cm).

    If that doesn't work, then you need a different coefficient of expansion; you'll have to find the one that you were given with your syllabus.
