Bottle Feeding Shih-tzu Puppy - Help!?
Recently,my dog gave birth to 5 puppies...she is very small and with this size litter it caused her calcium to drop to 5.0...the vets told us to stop letting her breastfeed.
I've never bottle fed a puppy before, I looked up how to and watched video's as well. I pretty much understand it but my problem lies with the pups.
I can't get them to want the bottle. If I squirt the milk from the bottle into my hand they will drink it just fine but they seem to not like the bottle. I tried switching nipples and I even got one recommended from the vet. Now, I currently have them on a kitten's size nipple. They still don't want to take it. How Can I make them want the bottle?
Ok first off, don't comment judging people because you don't know ANYTHING about my situation. My dad was in the hospital with CANCER and I had to bring my dog to live with my grandma for a while. When she came back, she was pregnant. We didn't find that out until it was too late.My grandma didn't even know. I think i'm doing pretty good for an unexpected pregnancy since I never planned to breed her in the first place. The vet actually told me I did good at catching her symptoms early.

I would suggest going onto the Canine Breeding and Health page on Facebook. They are experts and will be more than happy to help you. You can add something to the bottle like a dog safe peanut butter (very slight amount) to get them to start licking. You will need to stimulate them to want to drink like a mom would do, massage their mouths/faces. Get a more realistic nipple otherwise.
