do you need sim card for smart watch?

I just got a smart watch and it needs a sim card, i only have one from my phone. since its the same as my phone can i just get an extra one on the same sim as my phone or do you need a separate one.

    That would be a data only SIM in that case. You'd have to get that from your carrier
