Yesterday my Brother was burgled.. has anyone got any good ideas to track the robbers down?

The thieves must have been kids because the window they used to gain entry was very small, and there was plenty of 'big stuff' to pinch like guitars, TVs etc which they wouldn't have got through the window. He is stubborn and won't report it to the police because 'he doesn't get on with them'.I was thinking about somehow using social media or something. They took a mobile phone and a distinctive money box containing £50. Any ideas? He lives in a small, reasonably close knit town in NorthEngland.
