what is a laminate desktop?

Laminated are many type materials ,depend on price .It can be spray laminated or glue laminated ,in both case under lay materials are syntactic wooden boards .It's an efficient technique of looking stone or wood surface .They are mostly water proof and scratch resistance .They are lower in weight and easy to assembly.

Most the desktops are Hardboards or particle boards ,some are plywood .By weighting the desk you can almost identify the material used in .The lighter desk are made by hard boards and as it get heavier weight ,the materials are getting more dense .

Laminate is that plastic stuff like your kitchen countertops. They make it with wood grain patterns and put it on furniture. And it does wear like iron - it's a good surface. It's a little sleazy, but useful.

The other sort of thing would be "veneer" - which is a tiny thin sheet of wood glued to the tops of the desk. That would be a little higher class. But the laminate will wear better.
