My PS3 turns off automatically when I try to reinstall an old game. Like dead island. When I try to play it, it turns off in 5 minutes why?

It sounds like an overheating problem, clean out the fan near the back. Does this happen with only old games? Shut down just the game or the entire PS3?

Before turning system on . hold down blue ray button and switch power on same time, the fan will go into HIGH speed to blow out dust, then will return to normal. If this wont fix the problem then you will need to replace the thermal paste ( watch a U tube video on how to do this )
