A Blue Ray DVD can store more data. So a DVD player cannot read it. I believe all Blue Ray players can play standard DVD. You plug your DVD into an HDMI input. The TV will check on the quality of image and adjust.

Just like a 6+ year old laptop/PC with a SD memory card reader will may not read a 8 or 16+ Gb card. The hardware at the time could not do it. So just buy a new USB to memory card reader, then it will work. The Blue Ray player are pretty cheap anymore, they used to be $150 or so. Now they are down to $40.

The problem, the Blue Ray DVDs are still more then twice a DVD. If your device has a built in DVD, see if you can add via a HDMI. A laptop can get a external USB to Blue Ray. Almost impossible to replace a built in DVD to Blue Ray unless it's only a few years old. Laptop parts are only good for a few years.

There is no such thing as a "blu-ray dvd". They do not exist.

A Blu-Ray disc is a totally different format to a DVD and uses a totally different laser. A Blu-Ray player is backwards compatible with DVDs and has two lasers - one red (for DVDs) and one blue (for Blu-Ray discs). A DVD player only has a red laser, so it can only play DVDs (and CDs).

No, you will have to have a Blu-Ray player or drive to play a Blu-Ray disc.

No they can't. If they could then what would be the point in blu-Ray players?

No. As the name suggests BR DVDs need a blue ray to read the data off of them, which of course a standard DVD player wouldn't have (they use red).

It can work the other way around though

    In short, No.

Also to correct you. Bluray is Bluray, not DVD. And that is why Bluray can not be played on DVD players. But you can play DVDs on Bluray players - same way you can play CD/VCDs on DVD players - always backward compatible.

    No.

Only BluRay players can play BluRay discs. All BluRay players can also play DVDs and CDs.

DVD players can ONLY play DVDs and CDs.

CD players can ONLY play CDs.

And, in order to play a 4K BluRay disc, one needs a 4K capable BluRay player, likewise in order to play a 3D BluRay disc one needs a 3D capable BluRay player.

No, and don't try it. This will ruin your non blu-ray player.
