Is there any benefit for a guitarist to be able to read sheet music? Or is it a waste of time?

I've learned how to read sheet music in guitar lessons 20 years ago and I taught myself to read tablature in my 3rd year of playing guitar.... But, what are the benefits of learning how to read sheet music for a guitarist?

I haven't actually 'read' sheet music in almost 20 years. I usually just read tab and the timing of the notation...

What benefits are there for a guitarist to be able to be able to read sheet music all the positions up the neck of the guitar?

The benefits are the same as they are for any instrument or for a singer. The player can play from sheet music, can play something not intended specifically for their instrument, can play something they've never heard, can write down their own ideas and compostitions exactly as they are meant to be played, can write something down that players of other instruments can play, can see, musically, how a piece of music "works" - what key it's in, what notes are being played etc.
