Why is the dance world obsessed with a' la seconde(I think that's how it spelled?) ? Why aren't the good ole beautiful fouettes enough??

I just really want to know because, U can do fouettes but not a LA seconds turns and my teacher just wants me to do those from now on. I understand that you to practice them to get better. The way she said it made me feel like I was dong something wrong. So I talked to her about itgitg and she said that fouettes turns are not incorrect but she didn't give me a very clear answer.. This concerns me because I am focused more on ballet. And while I know the a LA seconds turns are used in ballet, fouettes turns are used more. So I would like to practice fouettes more than a LA second turns.....

A la seconde turns are only for men in the ballet. Only competition schools or jazz etc have the girls doing them too. You won't see them performed by women in professional ballet.

If your focus is ballet and you are female work on your fouetté turns. Perhaps find better training if your teacher can't correct you properly. If this is your ballet teacher asking you to do this then definitely find another teacher. Unless of course you are male Ann.

I don't completely understand the point of this, but to answer your general question, a la seconde turns are getting very popular because they're flashy. Generally, only boys do these.
