Depending upon how the firmware was written, you may find that it's not possible to change certain settings when the camera is set to specific auto settings such as the green auto mode. Try first set the camera's command dial to the P mode and then try to set the camera's AF mode accordingly. Also, refer to your owner's manual on how to make the change. When all else fails, always read the fine manual.

I would try the rear dial. The front dial selects options within the focus mode selected by the rear dial.
