Received Email that I had requested to 'Recover Access' to my account?

I did not make any request. The email appears to be real as it has the purple Y in the email list.

So is this some hacker trying to get in? I can't see how it would work for them as the email comes to me and not them. Also, the 'Account Key' they gave was alpha characters while all of the codes I've ever seen to verify my account have been numbers.

Here is the text of the email (I've replaced my email address and the 'key' with junk ;) )

Hi ,

On December 02, 2016 at 7:15 AM, you made a request to recover access to your Yahoo account.

xxxxxxxx is your Account Key. Do not share this Account Key outside of the Yahoo domain.

Thanks,

Yahoo

The email appears real to me. It is possible someone accidentally typed your Yahoo ID instead of their own. Maybe they misspelled their Yahoo ID or can't remember it. This happened to me once. My Yahoo ID was "sociallydistorted2014" but I forgot the "2014" part. Ironically, someone here on Y!A posted a question about their account repeatedly getting locked and they revealed their ID as "sociallydistorted" and I was like "OH SH#T!!!!" I found the paper I had written my list of email addresses on and saw I had made a mistake. That account has since been deleted.

If you did not make this request ignore it.
