The circuit shown in the figure (Figure 1) consists of a 5.4-V battery, a 32-mH inductor, and four 64-Ω resistors. Find the characteristic time for this circuit.

The two resistors at the far right are in series, and add up to 128 ohms.
In parallel with the resistor drawn vertically,
1/r = 1/64 + 1/128 = 3/128; r = 128/3
Add in the series resistor at the bottom,
64 + (128/3) = 64*5/3
Time constant L/R = (32*10^-3)*3/(64*5)
= 3*10^-4 seconds
