how many mb is in a gb?

I have always known 1 gb as 1024 mb, but I looked up on google how many mb is in 4 gb, and it said 1000 mb instead of 4096 or whatever. SO IS A GB 1000 MB OR 1024?!?

Depends if you're talking about memory from an OS point of view, or storage point of view.

The OS does it properly, so 1GB is 1024MB because of the binary math.

Storage (hard drives, etc) simply use decimal numbers so 1GB is 1000MB because they feel it's easier for the consumer to understand.

This is the main reason why your "1GB" USB thumbdrive doesn't show up as a full 1GB under Windows.
