If your dads TV has Bluetooth get him a set of Bluetooth headphones if they wont pair with the TV get a Bluetooth transmitter to go in the headphone socket

The thing that distinguishes a Bluetooth TV from a non Bluetooth model is that it can transmit and receive Bluetooth signals.
So no, unless the headphones require a special variant of a Bluetooth transmitter which would usually be included with them then any Bluetooth headphones should work.

You need to check in the manual that came with the TV. It's unfortunate, but not all TVs that have bluetooth can actually talk to headphones. So I'd advise caution if I were you!
