I don't get it. Why do some linebackers in the NFL line up in three point stances. Are they like de/lb or something?

In a 3-4 LBs are the DEs. They have the responsibility for containment, as well as other responsibilities. The LBs you probably see in a three point stance or standing up at the line are most likely the weak side OLBs in a 3-4.
