What does "ですね" mean in Japanese?

I ve heard a sentence like, "Sou desu ne" and other Japanese sentences that end with "desu ne." What exactly does this part mean? And how would I use it properly in a sentence?

It is also used to reaffirm your statement.

    For example: 'kawaii desu ne?'

    It means, "Isn't that so?"
