Each letter represents a different digit (1 to n). What digits do the letters represent?

The numbers "HERES", "MERRY" and "XMAS" are added and "READER" is the result.

What digits do the letters represent?

Update:

XMAS is written so that S is under Y of MERRY

    I'm not going to solve it all but you can using basic info on the way parts of sums act

    I will use ? to stand in for an unknown 10's digit

    e.g the left column

    H+M+[any carry over ? from EEX sum] = RE

    since they are all single digits R must be 1

    so, S+S+Y = 11 (or unlikely, 21)

    and E+R+A+1 = E, so R+A+1 =10 (or unlikely, 20)

    so A=8

    etc.

    Check back and eliminate impossibilities
