Is this a good fancy goldfish setup?
Hello! This is my first time seriously keeping goldfish so I'm just checking in to make sure this setup is alright and get some opinions.
I currently have a 40 gallon breeder tank and I'm getting two butterfly telescopes to live in it. The tank is bare bottom for easy waste removal. (Plus I just like the look). I have an aquaclear 70 filter and a sponge filter for filtration, and a heater set to 72 degrees(it can get pretty cold in my house)
For decour, I have a large group of smooth stones in the center that I scrubbed and soaked. The tank has been pre-seeded and I've been feeding it ammonia for quite awhile. The readings are stable and I haven't seen any ammonia or nitrites in over a week and a half.
Is everything in order? I think it sounds good and I would even like to upgrade to a 75 in the future.

Maybe. I don't know the power of a sponge filter but the aqua clear 70 is too small.
For gold fish you go by the Gallon per Hour rating not the tank size. The AC 70 does 300 gph. A gold fish tank needs 10 times the filtration. So you need to do 400 gph or higher. The ratings on filters is also not regulated, they test them without media in them. So the rating is off.
Try this. Start with one fish and see how the levels are for a few months. Don't use the carbon in your AC 70, buy more media. The carbon only makes the water clearer but with regular water changes and keeping the tank clean ( bare bottom is great I have been doing that for years ) your water will sparkle.
I have a 75 Gal tank and have 2 AC 110 and a canister filter. Bare bottom and 4 Ryukins.
Good luck!

The filtration is not very good. I suggest you get a marineland penguin 350, And you can continue to use it when you decide to upgrade. you can use the cycled filters too.
you havnt seen ammonia or nitrites? thats good but what are your nitrates? a cycled tank will have nitrates, try to get them at or under 20 before adding the fish.
