Where do Catholics stand on tattoos?

I may want to get a tattoo in the future, but I don't want to seem as if I'm trying to defy the church. Is it allowed? Frowned upon? Not allowed?

I can find no Catholic teaching for or against tattoos.

    However a point to ponder:

You are a masterpiece work of art, created in the image and likeness of the artist, God.

Would you go up to Leonardo Da Vinci's painting "The Last Supper" and try to "improve" it by adding your own touches here and there?

If you are a minor then there is a second issue. You do have to concern yourself with the Commandment to honor your father and mother which means that if they say no tattoo then you should honor them by not getting a tattoo (until you are at least 18).

Here is an interesting story about tattoos and Coptic Christians in Egypt: http://www.cruxnow.com/faith/2015/06/27/tattoos-ar...

    With love in Christ.
