if you got a felony at the age of 16 does it go away once you turn 18? this is for California?

    No, it doesn't. Even a misdemeanor doesn't. After all the sentence has been served, you can have the record sealed. Generally, you can't expunge a felony. If you were tried as an adult, you may not even be able to seal it - depending on the nature of the crime. It isn't automatic.

    But police will always have access to those records, as will child protective services.
