My 10 M/O is sick with the Flu and he is on so many meds is this okay?
The doctor put him on Tamiflu which he takes twice a day, and he also said to give him Motrin and Tylenol, revolving, every 3 hours.. 3 hours?! Is this okay, 3 hours seems like so close together? It seems like we just keep stuffing medicine in him. Oh and he threw up horribly everywhere.. temp is 103.7 Don't know what to do ugh. Doctor said no need to bring him to the ER unless his temp is 105+... But his temp is 103.7 WITH Meds... He seems to be feeling slightly better after he puked... Suggestions?

Giving him both Tylenol and Motrin may work slightly better than either alone. That it's every three hours is unimportant. You'd do just about as well giving both at the same time, but then you'd be frantic with nothing to do for six hours at a time.
Tamiflu may be causing the vomiting. If it's a significant amount, and keeping him from being well hydrated, you might want to talk to your doctor about whether to continue. And keep in mind that it does nothing positive in the first few days; it only trims a day off the end of the illness, when the fever is gone and the cough no longer so bad. The advice I usually give to parent of small sick children is that they consider taking a good stiff drink or two. Tom Paine might well have talked about your situation rather than revolution when he said "These are the times that try men's souls."

Sorry to hear about him not feeling well.
If he can't keep the stuff down, you can give a suppository of acetaminophen. A lot of the time it will make them feel better enough that they will then be willing and able to eat something.
Alternating between Motrin and Tylenol really does work well to keep a fever under control. If you time it right, you can actually cover them so that they don't have a period of time where they aren't medicated.
All you can do is keep up with the meds to help him feel better and try to keep him hydrated. If he gets dehydrated, then you might end up having to take him to the ER for IV fluid. Hopefully not, though.

Dr De Witt is entirely correct, Tamiflu has vomiting as a common side effect, it does not "cure" the flu, and giving fever meds like this is common-they are different (tylenol and advil) so its not an OD. You also never treat just a number, you LOOK at the patient and see how they look and act. The ER has no way to treat the flu except support and if he doesnt need that, then staying at home is prudent

I suggest that you talk with your doctor again. Tylenol and Motrin are THE SAME THING!!! What doctor doesn't know that?
You're the parent and you know what's best for your child. If you feel he needs immediate medical attention then, by all means, bring him to the emergency room. I hope he feels better soon and the weight of having a sick baby is lifted off of your chest. Update if and when possible.

I agree with Mr. DeWitt. Tamiflu marginally shortens the duration of illness and, given the side effects, may be of little real value.
