My baby has the flu, and the doctor put him on many meds?

My 10 month old baby has the flu, and the doctor gave him Tamiflu twice a day, and Motrin + Tylenol back and forth every 3 hours, doesn't 3 hours seem so close together? It seems like we just keep pumping him with meds and It's not working so well, his temp is 103.7 with the medicine. Doctor said not to bring him to the ER unless he has a temp of 105.. but he is so miserable, and his body is so hot! He did just throw up so much everywhere, and he seems to be not as fussy.. any suggestions?

If you are worried, take him in to the E.R.

*That being said, Tylenol and Motrin are common OTC medication. They are used by millions of people daily. I don't find Tylenol works for fevers. I'd suggest Motrin, in the correct dosage for his weight every 4 hours. I take Motrin (Advil, actually) every week for pain, head ache, etc. Try to give Motrin WITH a snack or liquid - it can be hard on an empty stomach.

*Stick with small often sips of liquids and small bland snacks. You don't want to give him a bunch of liquids or food at once because he WILL throw up. Just a few crackers or bananas, here, and a few sips there.

*Tamiflu will only work for viral flus. It also only works if taken early on in the illness.

*Make sure the little one is well hydrated - go buy some Pedialyte. They make clear Pedialyte you can make his formula with. Similiac also makes a formula designed for babies suffering from diarrhea - https://similac.com/baby-formula/similac-expert-ca... If he is breastfed, continue feeding as normal.

*Strip him down to his diaper while he has a fever. Extra fabric will only keep him hot. Cool baths are not suggested. That being said, a warm bath - slightly cooler than normal - can be beneficial.

*Encourage him to have naps. Naps and sleep are healing. That being said, keep a close eye on him.

Yes, learn to trust your doctor or find a new one. Tamiflu is not 100% and if you don't get it immediately, it often does nothing. You also don't say how long it's been. It takes time for meds to work.

Motrin or tylenol every three hours is fine, depending on the dose.

Try giving him cool baths to bring the temperature down. If he has trouble breathing (wheezing, shallow breathing) take him to the ER.

That is WHY the doctor ordered "so many" medications.

Motrin and Tylenol both help fever (and pain), but they work differently, so it's okay to take both. You're giving both medications as often as directed, you're just staggering the doses so your son is getting something for fever every three hours. For example, give Tylenol at 6 and 12 (AM and PM) and Motrin at 3 and 9 (AM and PM). Also, strip him down to his diaper and give him a cool bath and/or wipe him down with cool washcloths.

Tamiflu can help reduce the severity and duration of flu symptoms.

If your son has a high fever, if he is vomiting so much that he is getting dehydrated (fewer wet diapers), or if he has difficulty breathing, take him to the ER. Otherwise, treat his symptoms and wait it out. I hope he feels better soon!

if you are worried about the baby, take it to a doctor. you can never be too cautious with young children and fever.

None of that is a concern.
