Can anyone tell me what gated communities in Orange county are like? Are houses very close together? Do you get to know your neighbours etc?

Ok, it is for researching a novel I am writing. I am looking for a location in Orange county that would be inland and close to horse trails and parks. The property would be large, with a minimum of six bedrooms. Must have a pool as well as capacity for a few horses.. The owner occupier would keep mainly to himself and while other houses wouldn't be a milion miles away, he would be well surrounded by his own gardens and land. I was looking online at Trabeco Canyon and Laguna Hills? Sorry if I misspelled them.
