True or False: If 5x=7y, then x:5=y:7? Please explain

    False. You have it exactly backwards.

    5x = 7y

    Divide both sides by 5:

    x = 7y/5

    Then divide both sides by 7:

    x/7 = y/5

    Answer:

    False, it should be x:7 = y:5

    x / y = 7 / 5
