Is it okay or a good idea to date, or get in another relationship when you're not over an ex?

Or should we wait until we're completely over them before we see anyone else (even if it would take months, or even a year or more before we're over an ex?)

I would strongly recommend waiting. Dating someone in order to help you forget someone else never works. It's like drinking to subdue your feelings. Eventually those feelings (which haven't been dealt with) will resurface and then you're complicating everything by bringing another person into your life who will likely get hurt. That's why there are so many questions on this site which involve what to do when feelings for ex are still there after dating someone else for a year.

It's not a good idea. You can end up hurting the person you are dating/ in a relationship with.
