Why are climate deniers so obsessed with Al Gore? I'm from the UK so don't understand this phonenema. Thanks.?

Because it's much easier for them to attack a personality than it is to come up with valid critiques of the science.
Pretty much every measure of global surface temperature (including the one that Koch Brothers funded) shows that it is rising, so they can't really go after that.
None of them know enough physics to come up with any good scientific arguments against the effect. And the few that do know physics know they can't come up with any good scientific arguments against the effect. There is a Princeton physicist, Will Happer, that gets quoted in here a lot by deniers. The quote from him that they use is kind of amusing, because what he starts out talking about--you guessed it--is Al Gore!
So it's much easier to attack Gore, he lives in a big house, his house is near the ocean, he flies around a lot, he's overweight, yada yada yada. Of course not one of things makes one iota of difference to the science, but they're things that even the most science ignorant of the deniers (and that's saying a lot) can talk about, so they do.

He won a Nobel Prize for his work on global warming. Doesn't that make him a relevant voice?

He's just one of the more visible faces in the argument, & people are drawn to symbols.

Ignore Al Gore he thinks he knows everything, but he does'nt know that a species NOT from our Universe is creating global warming to flood out all species from earth to claim earth for them selves. http://www.globalcommand.net/ If your country wants to save themselves from a Glacier that broke off in the Arctic the size of Mexico then they need to use cargo ships & put steel boxes in the holds. Put suction equipment on board to extract sand 100 miles from shore out at sea & put it 25 miles from shore. Make it 25 miles by 25 miles 40 to 60 feet high. from England so if it hits these sand barriers that will stop it & later on you'll have extra land for your people. I'd screen the sand because 2 or 3 of my teams became Billionaires from the sands of time. Mike

Where have you been lately? Zowee! Al Gore has been promoting this evil agenda of Catastrophic Anthropogenic Climate Change or Catastrophic Anthropogenic Global Warming for over a decade via his movie 'Inconvenient Truth'. The UK is certainly no stranger to Al Gore and his movie. The movie was once mandatory learning in the UK schools. Saner heads prevailed and it may be presented, but it is not mandatory. In the UK there is a Lord Monckton who is widely know for his expertise in debunking Al Gore's evil movie.
Since you are in the dark about Al, I will give you a brief synopsis of his life. He is the son of a US Senator who fought against the civil right of blacks. Al was raised with a silver spoon in his mouth and made a lot of money from tobacco. The family owns or did own controlling stock in Occidental Petroleum. In the 60s and 70s Al teamed up with Paul Ehrlich in the scaring people of an impending Ice Age. Since that fell through he is a staunch proponent of Global Warming. He was the Vice President of the USA and unsuccessfully ran for President. However, he has recently made millions more dollars by promoting this Global Warming scam. He has a scam company that sells CARBON CREDITS. He used to promote Carbon Credits in lieu of Dollars. He is an outright liar and a scaremonger which has made him rich and somewhat powerful among the scientific illiterate. He has six homes (that may have changed recently) One of his homes, in Tennessee, consumes enough energy for a small city. He has private jets and wants everyone else to cut back on their carbon consumption. He once flew half way around the world to accept an 'environmental award'. Yet he wants to raise energy prices so that you and I will use less fossil fuel. He is anti science and here is the proof:
Quote by Will Happer, Princeton University physicist, former Director of Energy Research at the Department of Energy: “I had the privilege of being fired by Al Gore, since I refused to go along with his alarmism....I have spent a long research career studying physics that is closely related to the greenhouse effect....Fears about man-made global warming are unwarranted and are not based on good science. The earth's climate is changing now, as it always has. There is no evidence that the changes differ in any qualitative way from those of the past.”
Just look up Al Gore's failed predictions. The internet is full of them.

He is the Pope of the AGW religion

He's their favourite climate scientist alongside Bill Nye and Leonardo De Caprio
Ironically Al Gore promoted legislation that funded the development of the internet which deniers use to spout their nonsense, with that and educating millions of people about climate change he achieved more out of office than any Republican ever achieved in it

Al Gore is a huge figure in proclaiming man-made climate change. Ironically, he has a private business jet which is polluting.....
Climate "deniers" don't necessarily believe the climate isn't changing, but that man isn't causing it. There is a deal of solid proof that CO2 levels were much higher during ice ages, and that CO2 levels came after a warming started, not vice versa.
And if anyone throws that "97% of scientists believe it", I will throw it back. The statistic was manipulated.
The study collected 11,000 papers with climate change-ish words in them. They rated them by no opinion, for man-made and against. I don't remember the exact numbers, but about half I think had no opinion. Then, they asked the scientists themselves. About 7,000 still had no opinion. Then 97% of the remain 6,000 said they thought it was real.
People proclaim 97% of the scientific community believe it. That is a pretty straight up lie and I am sure very insulting to a great amount of scientists.
