Why do so many stores in the Philippines have loud music blaring at the entrance?

Well not all, i think. It depends. Where did you hear it? Was it in the mall? There are some selling some speakers, maybe thats why they're playing some music. Not sure tho

I do not think this is the case. I live in the Philippines, and have lived here all my life. So I can categorically say that the question is based on a wrong premise. It is possible that the asker has experienced this, but "loud music at the entrance" is never the norm, can't even say many stores because I haven't been to any. If this is true for 0.00000000001% of stores then the question loses its basis.

The only reason I could think of was that the music is to deter street vendors from trading outside ...although even that doesn't seem to work.
Like most people I really dislike this practice.

That is the mentality they have. They seem to think it draws in more customers but it does NOT.

Do the owners really think people are MORE likely to enter a store which has loud music playing? The music has the opposite effect on me....makes me very reluctant to enter, especially if I know I'll have to ask a sales person for assistance. With the loud music in the background I can't understand what the person is saying.
