Can a storage place auction your car or motorcycle if you didn't give them a copy of your registration? How would they be able to auction if they don't know if it's in your name.

It's the same as when you don't pay a mechanic. He gets a lien and sells the vehicle.

They likely have to go though the court to obtain a title.
Because you owe the storage facility money they can place a lien on any of your properly that's now in their possession. With that paperwork they can obtain a replacement title for the vehicle in their name, and sell it off to recover the costs.
You would also have agreed to allow this when you signed the contract for the storage unit.

Yes, they can. The process varies a lot from state to state. They file paper work with the DMV or Sheriff and get a lien on the title, then after a certain number of days and efforts to contact you, they can sell the car to get the money they are owed.
